🌳 Tiny Forest Project

What is the Tiny Forest?

The Pocket Tiny Forest is a dense, diverse urban woodland planted using the Miyawaki method — a Japanese technique that creates native forests growing 10 times faster and 30 times denser than conventionally planted forests.

Native tree and plant species were selected to increase local biodiversity, support pollinators, and provide urban cooling and air quality benefits to the surrounding neighbourhood.

The Tiny Forest is a living example of what communities can do when neighbours come together with a shared vision for a greener, more biodiverse urban environment.

Why It Matters

  • Increases urban biodiversity by providing habitat for native insects, birds, and other wildlife
  • Reduces urban heat island effect with dense canopy and soil cooling
  • Improves local air quality by filtering pollutants and producing oxygen
  • Demonstrates community-led environmental stewardship
  • Creates a natural outdoor classroom for neighbourhood children
